Listening HW: Using the Companion Web Site

By now, you have received your homework calendar and are probably having some difficulty finding out how to get access to the listening sections on the web site.  This post is going to give you step-by-step directions to access the exercises.  NOTE: you can also use the CDs found in the back of your workbook for the "Listening for Information" exercises.  The "Listen and Identify" exercises are available ONLY through the companion web site.

Step 2: On the left hand side, click on Student Resources

Step 3: Enter the corresponding word from your textbook when prompted.  If you want to enter a word from the workbook, make sure you click on the "Click Here" link below the white box.

Step 4: After the word is successfully entered, move the mouse over the "Student Resources" button again and look at the drop down menu.  If you are doing a "Listen and Identify" exercise, click on the "Pronunciation and Pinyin" link.  If you are doing a "Listening for Information" exercise, click on the "Listening for information"link.  Feel free to play around with the other options to use as study aids.

Step 5: We are going to use the "Listening and Identify" exercise as an example. After clicking on "Pronunciation and Pinyin," you will be taken to the first lesson page.  If you wish to select another lesson, click on the numbers listed at the top of the page.

Step 6: In order to find the appropriate exercise (you will always be working with exercises 2.1-2.5 in each lesson), scroll down until you hit the "Listen and Identify - 2.1 Tones" - about halfway down.  Here, you can either listen to whole exercise straight through (purple arrow) or listen to the individual questions (green arrow).

Step 7: Write your answers on a piece of looseleaf and hand-in to me on time! 谢谢
